Troy Clements
I cut my teeth on wines back at The University of Arizona when I worked as a bus boy at a fine dining
restaurant. I was exposed to the 1982 Bordeaux vintage and the 1985 California vintage right out of the
gate. I can remember coming to the conclusion almost immediately that wine could be magical.
My passion for food and wine continued to grow until I eventually found a job as a sales representative
for a wine distributor. I built my relationships with restaurants and retailers on the street for the
following ten years until starting Pure Wine Company.
Today, I am proud to be part of a dream team of wine professionals that inspire me to constantly bring
amazing wines to market. I am constantly reaffirmed by the hard working wine community in Chicagoland and
their endorsement of the Pure Wine portfolio. I plan to keep developing that trust by representing wines
that deliver personality, value and impeccable packaging.
I still talk almost daily with many of the same customers that I met when I began as a salesman. And in
this rather tough economy I want to take this moment to thank them for the one true allocation; the
allocation of space on their wine lists and shelves. Thank you for helping make a dream a reality. I’ll
see you down the road….

Rick & Kathy Sarber
Rick and I are co-partners with Troy in the Pure Wine Company. I am Troy’s mom Kathy,
and Vice President of Pure Wine. Rick is Troy’s step father and operates as COO of the
company. Since we both have a passion for great wine and food; it was a natural for us
to enter into the wine business with our son. Even though we are new to the wine
business, we are not new to running a business. In 1991 we were named the Illinois
Emerging Entrepreneurs of the Year by Inc. Magazine and Ernst and Young, and were also
inducted into the Arthur Anderson Entrepreneur Hall of Fame. With Pure Wine Company we
are able to meld our business experience and our love for wine into an exciting vision
that Troy has created.

I started in the wine business over 16 years ago. I wish I could say it was my passion for wine that
brought me into the business, but frankly I needed a job. Needless to say you don’t stick with something
for 16 years if you hadn’t developed a passion for it. That passion has intensified since the conception
of Pure Wine Company. It’s all about great wine. Troy has done an amazing job bringing new, great, and
fresh wines to the market. I am confident that if people taste the wines in Pure’s portfolio, they will
embrace them.

I started my relationship with wine at an early age at family celebrations. It was during my college
years that I seriously started the study of wine; my study shifted to a passion for wine. During this on
going affair with wine, I worked as a manager for a gourmet food and wine shop, and started selling wine
several years later. Troy and I were friendly competitors selling wine when he told me about his idea
for Pure Wine Company. I thought it was an exciting, unique opportunity to be in on the on the ground
floor of a fresh new company. We have a great portfolio of wines and an exceptional team of wine
enthusiasts. My early introduction to wine has brought me to a Pure Wine experience for which I’m truly
grateful.

I have been in fine wine sales for over 10 years. My first experience was a consultant for a California
based brokerage that specialized in German and French wines. Later I moved on to own and operate Select
Wines, a consulting and brokerage business that bought and sold fine wine consignments nationwide.
Immediately prior to accepting my position at Pure Wine, I took on the position of Development
Coordinator/Wine Director for a Chicago area gourmet market. Working as a broker as well as in the
retail market, my experience has helped me to be keenly aware of what my customers want.

I have been working full-time with wine since 1995. I was in Chicago, working on my
Ph.D dissertation in Political Science, when I got roped into the wine business. I
started as an hourly employee at a wine store, and eventually got promoted to
Manager. Since then, I have worked as a Sales Manager for some of the best fine
wine importers in the US. I love selling wine; and I especially love helping small
high-quality winegrowers introduce their products to the market. My passions
include Riesling, Pinot Noir, and heckling the visiting team when the Bulls are
playing at the United Center.

Hello, Pure Wine this is Barbra how can I help you? Usually when you call, my voice
is on the other end trying to assist you in orders, accounts receivable or directing
you to whoever you need to talk to. After receiving a BA in Theatre, I waited
tables in transition figuring out my next move. During a wine tasting at Solstice,
I had an epiphany and found my way at the front door of Pure Wine. Coming from
creative background, it is comforting to be in an environment that constantly
challenges creativity. Not to mention explore the palette and discover new wines
with such an incredible group of people.

In the mid 80's, after a lengthy stint in Industrial Sales, I had the opportunity to try my hand in the
restaurant business. It was during this time that I discovered that "Grapes" had more to offer than just "Jelly".
A great interest in wine immediately ensued and after much reading and tasting I found myself putting together
wine lists for restaurants in both Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. With my wife (the lovely Carol)
working during the daylight hours and me slaving away at eateries in the evenings - I was happy to accept an
offer to sell Wine in Lake and McHenry counties.
Nine years later (still with the same company) I had the urge to move on to explore additional growth potential.
Troy Clements and his company PURE WINE has given me the opportunity to expand my horizons and move forward
in the Industry I love and enjoy.
Other major interests: English Springer Spaniels and Harley Davidson Motorcycles - we enjoy both!!

I started in the Wine Business 19 years ago after finishing me BA Degree from Western Illinois University. I
met Frank Maggio owner of Vally Liquors wholesale/Imports and he convinced me The Wine Business is the Greatest
in the world. Selling wine and developing customer relationships was something I felt good and successful with,
and when I met Dennis Styck (Founder Vintage Wine) I soon learned that wine was a living breathing thing, it had
a soul. I worked for Dennis for many years and during that time I met Troy, my fellow comrade at Vintage.
Having the same energies, hopes and ambitions it became an evolution, a slow growth process that we would
eventually work together on the same team again. As what’s in the bottle changes and gets better, so does my
continuing fascination and love for the business. Frank Maggio was right, it’s the greatest business and I
never want to leave.
